Decoding the key players in international logistics and supply chain
Global trade requires a village. A single shipment from a factory in Asia to a warehouse in Europe involves multiple parties, each specialized in a specific part of the journey. Understanding these roles is crucial for anyone involved in international trade.

The architect of the transport. They organize the shipment for individuals or corporations, negotiating rates with carriers and managing the logistics without usually operating the vessels themselves.

The compliance expert. A licensed professional who handles the clearance of goods through customs, calculating duties, and ensuring all documentation meets government regulations.

Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier. Similar to a freight forwarder, but they issue their own House Bill of Lading and often buy space from carriers in large volumes to sell to smaller shippers.

The physical transporter. These are the companies that actually own and operate the ships, airplanes, or trucks that move the cargo from origin to destination.
